Town Beef National History - 2009

In it's 4th year of existence, TownBeef organized it's first ever "State Bowl Games."  Hosted in Philipsburg New Jersey, 7 teams will go down in the History books for taking part in the first Annual State Bowl Series.

The Tampa Bay Wild Cats (1-2) took a passenger van and packed it with 16 players to take the Haul to Philipsburg, NJ.  After a 20 hour ride they arrived at the Philipsburg Inn around 8:45 am.  Their first game against the NJ state champs (Bombers) would begin at 1pm.  All though they came up short in a 10-4 loss they showed unprecedented speed and athletic ability that scored more points then any other team has against the Bombers all season.  They finished 1-2 in the tournament playing 3 games in 2 days but clearly a talented team that was exhausted from a crazy road trip.

Trenton B.I.C. (3-1) boasting the weekends most shocking record was the highly under dogged Brothers In Christ.  After a disappointing season of only 1-8 B.I.C opened the day against the Liners with a huge upset victory.  They also beat the Warpath from PA and the SEB who made a late guest appearance on Sunday.  They came up short against the Florida Wildcats but repped NJ by playing hard nose football and never stopped until the last whistle blew.

Rockland County, NY Rocboyz (2-1) showed up with only 7 guys to play the PA Wildcats and paid dearly.  The overwhelming size of the Wildcats up front, speed at the WR position, and healthy armed QB blanked a 7 man squad going both ways.  Rocboyz ended their Saturdays games on a positive note defeating the PA Warpath and the Liners.

Sayreville Bombers, NJ (2-0) found themselves in a shoot out in their first game against the Tampa Bay Wild cats.  These 2 state champs had all weapons on display but the Bombers defense caused 3 huge turnovers one for a TD.  The Bombers played sound football and beat the Wildcats 10-4.  For Sunday's game the Bombers had 7 guys from their normal roster and picked up some other players 4 from NJ and 1 from NY as did the Wildcats picking up 5 from their PA league.  This was more of a pick up style game but the Bombers won.

Warpath, PA (0-3) A state bowl is not the best place for a new team to get their feet wet.  Playing 3 games in two days against some of TownBeef's best teams will give them the experience they need to carry over into the Fall.  They banged with all the big boys but came up short with execution.

Philipsburg Liners (1-2) Losing their starting QB on the last play of the first game they couldn't manage to win any of their last two.  Carty stepped in at QB and played great but came up short against a full Rocboyz squad and a determined BIC team.  The Liners Defense made big plays but couldn't keep the BIC and the Rocboyz out of the endzone often enough for the wins.

Wildcats PA, (2-1) This team had size, speed, and the biggest armed QB of the day and boasted a big win over the Florida Wildcats.  Although they were the Co-Champs of PA, they came out and played great football.
